Yeosh almost didn't happen. His parents would later refer to him as their favorite mistake, except for that one time they made a wrong turn and found an ice cream shop giving out free ice cream. That was awesome. It wasn't long before others realized how mature he was for his age and even Yeosh knew he was destined for great things. As a child, he learned to give change before he could even count. The fact that four quarters equaled a dollar seemed to be in his genes. He also began driving at age 2, when he managed to crawl into a running car, put it in reverse and ram it into a house. Not even Paris Hilton was making headlines about her wreckless driving at that age! In elementary school, he was Captain of the Patrols, lead in the band, Fire Marshall Chief (whatever that means) and, fittingly, made the morning announcements.
Jon Ruhff was supposed to be April Ruhff. That's right, his parents were so set on the fact that he was going to be a girl that it wasn't until the drive to the hospital that his sweet mother asked his proud father, "What if it's a boy?" "We'll name him Jon" said Don with confidence such an event would never occur. "It's a giant head with legs!" the doctor proclaimed. "It's also a boy". Once the dresses and dolls were returned for He-Man and overalls, Jon began down a path of spotlight and limelight. Dressing as Raggedy Anne for his first ever costume contest, Jon took a bow to the roar of applause and now this 4 year old was hooked. Along with the thrill of fame, Jon learned to make a quick buck as well.
Where would these two paths cross? How were they ever to meet while in such wildly different orbits? It all happened one March morning in 2005 when Jon began his first day at a new job. There was excitement in the air over the new arrival and a lot to be learned. At the time, Yeosh also had something to prove as he would likely have to work with this stranger frequently. In the way only Yeosh can, he sauntered into the office and announced his arrival. In his coolest, most professional voice, he introduced himself and the conversation went something like this.
Yeosh:Hey, are you the new guy?
Jon:Yeah, are you my underling?
Yeosh:Your last name's Ruhff, eh? Must be Ruhff.....
Jon:Well, I can't even pronounce your name…wasn't that Mario's pet dinosaur?
...and that was the beginning of the end.
Things would continue to head south from there.
Jon would continue to be annoyed by Yeosh's cynical comments and Yeosh would continue to wonder how Jon had the nerve to constantly kick him out of a studio in the middle of a session. Things weren't looking good at the time and a dark cloud loomed overhead. Then, one magical day, Yeosh was gazing lovingly into the mirror at himself and exclaimed, "You know, I'm really awesome" to which Jon replied "Yeah, me too… I'm also funny and so enjoyable to be around." "Me too!" Yeosh retorted. The rest would be history as the pair headed down the preverbal path of advertising excellence.
People rejoiced, children sang, and grown men wept. The commercials they produced would increase local ad buys and bring in numerous awards. The pair knew they had something. "The Rogers and Hammerstein of Advertising" was one name that quickly began to follow them around. Feeling the need to act quickly before one of them changed their minds, they founded Push Button Productions….an audio production house as quirky as they are.
So that leads us to the present. Yeosh and Jon are now doing what they love and it shows. Not only do they have the business relationship that some would say it takes years to develop, but they've also become great friends. As the team continues to make strides and push forward, we can only wonder where they'll be in the next ten to fifteen years….probably right where they were when they discovered their intangible similarity; staring in the mirror delivering mutually admirable compliments. Either that or on the golf course playing a quick 9 before the 11am meeting!
